LFG-to-RNG Facility
Illinois

Neogenyx Fuels developed, owns, and operates the Upper Rock Island County RNG facility at the Upper Rock Island County Landfill in East Moline, Illinois. The facility captures naturally occurring landfill gas and processes it into pipeline-quality RNG – transforming what was previously flared into a low-carbon transportation fuel, displacing fossil fuels and strengthening energy resilience for the Quad Cities region
The Upper Rock facility represents the 16th renewable energy project completed in collaboration with Republic Services – and the second Illinois RNG facility to come online in a matter of months following Lee County in mid-2025, underscoring accelerating momentum and an ongoing dedication to advancing renewable energy in the region and beyond. The project aligns with Illinois’ ambitious targets to achieve 40% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% clean energy by 2050, as well as Republic Services’ commitment to beneficially reuse over 50% of the biogas at all its locations by 2030
The facility is designed to process 2,000 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) of raw landfill gas, producing ~500,000 dekatherms of renewable energy annually. Achieving commercial operation in December 2025, the plant converts what was once a wasted byproduct into a renewable energy resource for injection into the commercial pipeline. Beyond clean energy production, the Upper Rock facility delivers significant environmental and community benefits, including:
