LFG-to-RNG Facility
Illinois

Neogenyx Fuels developed, owns, and operates the Roxana Landfill RNG facility in Edwardsville, Illinois. The plant captures naturally occurring landfill gas transforming what was previously flared into pipeline-quality RNG. As one of the largest LFG-to-RNG plants of its kind in North America, the facility displaces fossil fuel in the Energy Transfer interstate pipeline while delivering significant emissions reductions for the region.
The Roxana facility represents the 14th renewable energy project completed in collaboration with Republic Services – and the first joint venture co-investment between the two companies, marking a deepening of a 20+ year partnership from a traditional developer/operator model into shared ownership. The project aligns with Illinois’ ambitious targets to achieve 40% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% clean energy by 2050, as well as Republic Services’ commitment to beneficially reuse over 50% of the biogas at all its locations by 2030.
The facility also received ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) status which verifies that biogas/biomethane meets strict sustainability, traceability, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction criteria, primarily for EU markets. It enables RNG to qualify for renewable fuel mandates, commanding higher market value, with certifications available for various feedstocks.
The facility is designed to process 6,000 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) of raw landfill gas, generating ~1.4 million MMBTu of renewable energy annually. Achieving commercial operation in November 2024, the plant produces a low-carbon transportation fuel. Beyond clean energy production, the Roxana RNG facility delivers significant environmental and community benefits, including:
