LFG-to-RNG Facility
Illinois

Neogenyx Fuels developed, owns, and operates the largest wastewater treatment biogas-to-RNG facility of its kind in the U.S. Located at the 91st Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Phoenix, Arizona, the facility processes raw biogas – a byproduct of wastewater treatment – into pipeline-quality RNG that is sold on the open market as vehicle fuel under the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) Program.
The 91st Avenue WWTP is owned by the Sub-Regional Operating Group (SROG), a coalition of five member cities – Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Tempe – and is operated by the City of Phoenix. The project transforms a previously untapped waste byproduct into a revenue-generating, carbon-neutral energy commodity for the region, advancing Phoenix’s ambitious sustainability and renewable energy goals through a public-private partnership model.
Using innovative energy technologies, Neogenyx Fuels processes raw biogas generated in the WWTP’s anaerobic digesters into RNG suitable for injection into the nation’s high-pressure natural gas pipeline. The facility occupies ~one acre of land and connects to an interstate pipeline via a dedicated three-mile RNG pipeline, capable of processing 2,600 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) of raw biogas and injecting 740,000 MMBTu of RNG into the commercial pipeline annually. The project achieved commercial operations in 2019.
Neogenyx Fuels processing plant utilizes a previously untapped energy resource by “cleaning” raw biogas generated at the WWTP into RNG, a carbon-neutral renewable energy commodity. Through this public-private partnership, the facility delivers significant environmental and economic benefits, including:
