Mead Johnson Nutrition selected Neogenyx Fuels to design, build, and implement a five-mile pipeline to use landfill gas to meet a significant portion of energy needs at the company’s manufacturing facility in Evansville, Indiana.
The gas is captured at Republic Services’ Laubscher Meadows Landfill, processed for use, and transported by dedicated pipeline to the manufacturing facility. Landfill gas is a natural byproduct of the decomposition of organic materials in the landfill.
Mead Johnson installed new burners in their steam boilers to use the landfill gas, displacing natural gas. The five-mile pipeline was installed using horizontal directional drilling, and paired with two-stage blower stations designed for capacity of 2,000 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM). Achieving commercial operations in 2009, the pipeline route was created without disruption to traffic or private property.
